FALSE ALARM

Yesterday we were at Thursday School. It's where Avery takes 3 classes for school. I always stay and help out where I am needed and Aidan and Addie go to child care. Well, Ted came to meet me for lunch and we went to get the little ones out of the child care area before we got Avery. Avery still had like 10 minutes of class left. So, Ted and the kids were standing by the door to the parking lot... Aidan saw this fun little red box by the door... yes, the fire alarm. You can guess where I am going with this. HE PULLED THE ALARM. Now... where we meet for Thursday school is a church with a FULL STAFF and they even have their own child care area. Our school uses their class rooms for our Home school co-op. There are about 300 kids that go to this co-op - grades K through 12 (of which about 150 or so were in classes at this time). SO... the alarm is sounding all over this LARGE church, all the students are coming out of the classrooms heading to the parking lot. The teachers seemed frantic (they didn't know we were having a fire drill so they thought maybe it was a real emergency). Ted's eyes are HUGE as he is telling me (as I am coming down the hall) that Aidan just pulled the alarm and he's not sure who to tell. Aidan is crying because for some reason he thinks the police are coming to put him in jail. Adults are telling us we need to leave the building but we are telling them... our son pulled the fire alarm and we are trying to find who we are suppose to tell. THEN... (this is my favorite part.. now... it wasn't my favorite part when it was happening) the nursery workers start rolling out cribs FULL OF BABIES. OH MY! We finally found the custodial staff at the church to tell them and they got the alarm off... but the entire church had been evacuated before that happened. Aidan was hysterically crying while Ted was calming him down. He kept saying "I want to go home". Poor guy. It was overwhelming... Loud sirens, flashing lights, people running out of the building and all because a 4 year old little boy saw a fun red box that had a handle and what are handles for??? for pulling! WELL, NOT ANYMORE.... he learned a lesson and I think he won't come near little red boxes for a LONG LONG TIME!
